Regionals season is here for NCAA golf and tennis

The GIST: Unlike volleyball’s championships, other spring sports' postseasons unfold over the course of several weekends. It’s regionals season, baby.

🎾 Women’s tennis: Sixty-four entered, but only 16 survived the first and second rounds of the national tournament this weekend. There’s not a ton of parity in the bracket this year, so nearly every match went according to seeding, with two exceptions: Yesterday, UCLA and Auburn secured second-round upsets over No. 6 Duke and No. 14 Miami, respectively.

🎾 Men’s tennis: The men’s bracket was even less compelling — only one unseeded team survived the weekend (congrats, Stanford…and sorry, No. 13 Columbia). The SEC is killing it across the men’s and women’s brackets, leading all conferences with 10 teams advancing to next weekend’s super regionals.

⛳ Women’s golf: The other country club sport is following suit as women’s golf tees off its national tournament today. A whopping 72 teams and 36 individuals will compete across six regionals until Wednesday, when each region’s five leading teams plus one top individual will punch their tickets to next week’s super regional. It’s like The Hunger Games but with skorts.

• Of the bajillion golfers to follow through regionals, No. 1 Stanford’s sophomore phenom, the incomparable Rose Zhang, is the one to watch. The reigning individual national champ seems to smash another record every time she takes the course.
