The GIST: China’s 20-year-old Yin Ruoning won her first career major at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship yesterday, making her the 15th different tourney champion in the last two seasons. Parity? More like pari-tee.

On the course: Yin posted a brilliant 4-under 67 Sunday showing en route to $1.5M of the record $10M purse, with Japan’s Yuka Saso coming in second for her best major finish since winning the U.S. Women’s Open in 2021, and a handful of golfers finishing tied for third.

  • Making her major pro debut, 20-year-old rookie Rose Zhang also continued to impress, finishing three shots back from Yin to tie for eighth. The kids are more than alright.

Zooming out: With Yin coming seemingly out of nowhere to notch her first major title, it resurfaces the age-old debate of whether or not parity is good for the game. On the one hand, the Zhang Effect was striking after the aforementioned rookie’s incredible LPGA debut earlier this month, highlighting just how impactful superstars can be.

  • But there’s also thrill and excitement that comes with knowing the talent pool is so deep that any player could hoist a trophy on any given weekend. Who said golf was boring?
