Florida State won their fourth national championship in women's soccer
The GIST: As you read, overall No. 1–seed Florida State won their fourth national championship — all in the last 10 seasons — with Monday’s blistering 5–1 beatdown of the also-undefeated No. 2 Stanford. Ring ring, destiny’s calling.
How it happened: The Seminoles channeled T-Pain all season long, becoming the first undefeated squad to win the title since (who else?) Stanford in 2011. Monday’s ’ship also featured the largest goal differential in a final since 2005, when international superstars Megan Rapinoe and Christine Sinclair hoisted the hardware for Portland. Good company.
What’s next: Speaking of global icons, FSU’s roster is jam-packed with international athletes, and many (like the aforementioned Brown) have played on the sport’s biggest stages. Senior midfielder Onyi Echegini is angling to rep Nigeria should they qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and others, like junior midfielder Taylor Huff, will likely be kickin’ it NWSL–style soon.
