Who will take the crown in NCAA men's volleyball?
The GIST: Today’s not just hump day, it’s also the centerpoint of the men’s volleyball season finale. With just three days until spring’s first national champs are crowned, sit back, relax, and catch up on the court(room) drama while these dudes snag some serious air.
Quarter-final recap: Last year’s national runner-up, Long Beach State (LBS), easily handled their fellow at-large selection Grand Canyon, ending the Antelopes’ season with last night’s 3-1 dub. Beach, please.
- But the late game was much spicier — Ohio State kept things close through four tough sets, but Penn State ultimately won out 3-1. Lucky for us, tomorrow’s semis will keep the thrills coming.
Semifinal preview: The 5 p.m. ET match between LBS and the top-seeded UCLA Bruins may get personal, as the Bruins hope to complete their revenge tour: LBS ousted them in last year’s five-set natty semifinal, but the Bruins have already beaten the Beach twice this year. One more win, and they’ll have a shot at the program’s 20th (!!!) title.
- There’s more revenge to be had in the 7:30 p.m. ET match, where the three-peat-seeking No. 2 seed Hawaii awaits Penn State. The Nittany Lions are one of only two teams to beat Hawaii this season, so the Rainbow Warriors are no doubt hungry for redemption.
