The GIST: Despite the aforementioned Davies creating a true Canadian Heritage moment by scoring the CanMNT’s first-ever World Cup goal, the world No. 41 squad was eliminated from knockout contention with yesterday’s 4–1 loss to No. 12 Croatia. *sniff*
The matchup: The red and white started the scoring early, with Davies making history in just the second minute of play.
- But the 2018 runner-up Croatians clearly took things personally, storming back to claim the lead before the half and eventually pouring it on with two more second half goals.
- Even taking notes from She’s the Man couldn’t help captain Atiba Hutchinson against The Blazers’ striking prowess.
What’s next: Despite the loss, the CanMNT has plenty to be proud of. They’ve proven they belong on the international stage, and they still have another chance to earn Canada’s elusive first World Cup win when they close out their historic run against No. 22 Morocco on Thursday.
- More to come in a gametime email then, but for now, let’s hear it for the boys.
