The GIST: The NHL trade deadline is set for Friday at 3 p.m. ET, but some of the biggest trades have already gone down as the competitive Eastern Conference powers up with some Western Conference talent. Early bird gets the superstars.

The biggest trades: After seeing the NY Islanders’ and Boston Bruins’ roster-bolstering moves, the third-in-the-Metropolitan Division NY Rangers jumped in on the action, most notably adding dynamic but controversial Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane yesterday. Anything you can do.

  • As for names still potentially on the move, coveted Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun is the most eligible unclaimed bachelor remaining. Will someone give him the final rose?

The Canadian moves: After nabbing veteran center Ryan O’Reilly from the St. Louis Blues in February, the Toronto Maple Leafs moved defenseman Rasmus Sandin to the Washington Capitals and left winger Pierre Engvall to the Isles before re-signing former fan favorite defenseman Luke Schenn from the Vancouver Canucks yesterday.

  • Out west, the Edmonton Oilers acquired Nashville Predator Mattias Ekholm, as they look to build a strong defensive core around their otherworldly captain, Connor McDavid, and continue their quest to snap their championship drought. Let the push begin.
