The eye of the tiger
From The GIST (hi@thegistsports.com)

Hi!
The WNBA keeps breaking the internet (in more ways than one), most recently with yesterday’s 2025 All-Star roster draft. Just 10 days ’til we see these stacked teams in action — until then, more sports below.

— World No. 53 and four-time Grand Slam champ Naomi Osaka, candidly reflecting on her evolving career expectations after a third-round Wimbledon exit and as she prepares for tennis’ hard court season. Wise beyond her years.
Wimbledon
🎾 It’s the thrill of the fight

The GIST: Forget champagne bottles — Wimbledon has been all about the tea, with piping hot stories steeped in drama across both the women’s and men’s singles competitions. Read on to fill your cup(pa) with all the latest.
🔥 World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka survives quarter-finals (QFs) thriller, two QFs remain: Today’s slate features No. 8 Iga Świątek in just her second-ever Wimbledon QF, taking on No. 19 Liudmila Samsonova. Elsewhere on Centre Court, teen phenom No. 7 Mirra Andreeva faces Belinda Bencic, the only mother still in the running for the title.
- As for the other side of the bracket, top-ranked Sabalenka lost her first QF set yesterday, but launched an astounding response to book a spot in tomorrow’s semi. Her opponent? The last American woman standing, No. 13 Amanda Anisimova, who’s staging a comeback of her own.
👀 Can No. 10 Ben Shelton defy the odds and top No. 1 Jannik Sinner?: All that’s standing between Trinity Rodman’s boyfriend and his first Wimbledon semi is Sinner…the top-ranked men’s player. But Sinner looks vulnerable, advancing to today’s QF only after his injured opponent retired on Monday, while also dealing with his own elbow injury.
- Meanwhile, before two-time defending champ No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz takes on No. 5 Taylor Fritz in Friday’s semi, No. 22 Flavio Cobolli will face his idol, No. 6 Novak Djokovic, in today’s QF, as the latter attempts to reach his seventh consecutive Wimbledon semi.
LPGA
⛳ The grass is always greener

The GIST: It’s time to par-tee, or should we say faire la fête, because the world’s best golfers are swinging into the Amundi Evian Championship — the fourth major of the year — from the stunning French Alps. Here’s everything you need to know before the 31st edition begins tomorrow.
4️⃣ LPGA’s fourth major of the year promises chaos: Nestled in the mountains beside Lake Geneva in eastern France, the Evian Championship course poses unique challenges for the star-studded field, from the unpredictability of the greens to those sneaky Alpine winds. It’s a tricky one, but the views make even the most costly double bogeys look good.
👀 The 132-woman field is wide open: Just as it’s been all season. In fact, for the first time in the LPGA’s 75-year history, there’s been a different winner at each of the 17 tour events so far — and world No. 1 Nelly Korda, who won a mind-boggling seven events to start last season, has yet to finish atop the leaderboard. Talk about parity.
- Forty-six of the top 50 women’s golfers will be in action — including No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul, the highest-ranked player yet to win a major, and 2015 champ No. 3 Lydia Ko, who has finished in the top ten at Evian in seven of her 11 starts — competing for a piece of the $8M purse. That’s a whole lot of green.

🥎 AUSL: Blaze vs. Bandits — Today at 11:30 a.m. ET — MLB.com
- The first matchup of a mid-day doubleheader, this showdown features two of the hottest hitters in the debut league: Bandits infielder Erin Coffel and Blaze infielder Baylee Klingler. Let the push to the playoffs, which tee off later this month, continue.
⚽ UEFA Women’s Euro: World No. 5 England vs. No. 10 Netherlands — Today at 12 p.m. ET — TSN
- The stakes could not be higher for defending champ England: A loss would eliminate the Lionesses following their opening L to No. 10 France.
- Adding to the drama? Partners Beth Mead (England) and Vivianne Miedema (Netherlands) will be competing against one another. No friends here.
⚾ MLB: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox— Today at 2:10 pm. ET — Sportsnet
- ICYMI, the Jays are the hottest team in baseball, rattling off 10 straight wins (including last night’s 6–1 rain-shortened victory) for their longest W streak since 2015. We won’t tell your boss if you spend the afternoon watching them soar for the series sweep.
🏀 WNBA: Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury — Today at 3:30 p.m. ET — WNBA League Pass
- Two of the league’s highest-scoring teams going head-to-head? Say less. Plus, six-time All-Star and newly-inked Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner will reunite with both her first flame and her partner-in-hoops (and life). A love story for the ages.
Take Your Pick
As the UEFA Women’s Euro group-stage action rolls on, who’s your pick to win the high-stakes Group D battle between the defending champion Lionesses and a tough Oranje squad?
