Sports without a tunnel walk? Couldnât be Unrivaled. The best womenâs hoopers in the game absolutely ate while strutting down the Sephora Tunnel this week. Our fave looks belonged to Vinyl BCâs Rae Burrell and Hive BCâs Ezi Magbegor. Heading into the weekend channeling these basketball baddies.
đŚ The Collier conundrum: What can the Lunar Owls do without their superstar?

The GIST: You already know Unrivaled will be without one of its biggest stars this season after Lunar Owls icon Napheesa Collierâs double ankle surgery. And thereâs even less for Owls fans to âhootie hooâ about after Mondayâs 80â62 loss to defending champs Rose BC.
- Letâs discuss what makes Collier so impactful â and what the 0-1 Owls can do during her season-long absence.
đŞ Breaking down Collierâs game: Not the flashiest player to lace up sneakers, Collier is unquestionably one of basketballâs best, and the reason is three-fold: Her versatility, high basketball IQ, and elite two-way play make her an absolute menace to line up against.
1ď¸âŁ Versatility: Sheâs a six-foot-one forward with guard skills. Her deep bag features a complete post package and fadeaway jumpers and threes.
2ď¸âŁ High basketball IQ: Itâs not a coincidence that Collier always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Sheâs savvy, intentional, and moves exceptionally well off the ball.
3ď¸âŁ Elite two-way play: Collier can score from anywhere on the floor, but she also defends all five positions, averaging a league-best two steals and 1.4 blocks per game last season.
đ Thereâs a Collier-sized hole in the Owlsâ lineupâŚso now what?: No player on this roster can fill Collierâs sneakers alone â sheâs Unrivaledâs reigning MVP for a reason. Replacing Collierâs scoring production would have fallen to Skylar Diggins, who averaged 17.9 points per game last year, but sheâs sidelined with a lower body injury, and her return-to-play timeline is uncertain.
- That leaves two likely candidates: Marina Mabrey and Aaliyah Edwards, who combined for 46 points and 20 rebounds in the Owlsâ season-opening loss.
- Mabreyâs grit, consistent three-point shooting, and playmaking combined with Edwardsâ post presence and blossoming perimeter offense (she faced Collier in last yearâs 1-on-1 championship game) address many of the Owlsâ gaps â but in two players, not one.
đ Hive BC made just two of their 15 threes in Mondayâs season-opening loss to Breanna Stewartâs Mist. Thatâs an objectively dismal 13.3%, but itâs not cause for concernâŚyet.
- Sonia Citron and Kelsey Mitchell combined for just one trey in their Unrivaled debuts, but theyâre both exceptional long-range shooters. During the 2025 WNBA season, Citron and Mitchell connected on 45% and 39% of their triples, respectively. Enter: the law of averages.
đĽ Mist forward Alanna Smith will record a double-double with blocks and points.
Smith put on a defensive masterclass on Monday, recording five rejections. Expect that block party to continue in tomorrowâs 8:45 p.m. ET game vs. Laces BC. At six-foot-four, Smithâs two inches taller than anyone on her opponentâs roster. Canât teach height.
That wraps up the inaugural edition of Unrivaled Weekly. Thanks for shooting hoops with us!
Yours through timeouts and technicals,
The GIST Team
