The GIST: The World Athletic Championships began from Budapest, Hungary on Saturday, featuring 100 Division I (DI) athletes running, throwing, and jumping from now until next Sunday — all aiming to qualify for next summer’s Paris Olympics.

The weekend medalists: Thanks to three NCAAers, Team USA brought home gold and a new world record after a dramatic mixed 4x400 relay on Saturday. The college kids taking a victory lap? Arizona State’s Justin Robinson, Arkansas’ Rosey Effiong, and Georgia’s Matthew Boling. NCAAmazing.

What’s next: Texas Tech’s Rosemary Chukwuma (Nigeria) and Ohio State’s Leah Bertrand (Trinidad and Tobago) will join college track legend and recent Texas grad Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia) in the women’s 100m today at 9:50 p.m. ET. With longtime pros Sha’Carri Richardson (USA) and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica) in the mix, the NCAA girlies will need to pull out all the stops.

  • Just 10 minutes earlier the men’s 110m hurdlers hit the track, featuring USC’s Tade Ojora running for Great Britain and UT-Arlington’s Joel Bengtsson competing for Sweden.
  • And don’t miss more DI women in action tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. ET when the 1500m race kicks off with Utah's Simone Plourde (Canada), Washington's Sophie O'Sullivan (Ireland), and South Carolina's Silan Ayyildiz (Turkey) all in the hunt.
