The Montreal Alouettes win the 110th Grey Cup
The GIST: For the first time in 13 years, the Montreal Alouettes returned to Grey Cup supremacy with last night’s stunning 28–24 upset win over the heavily favored Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Never underestimate the underdog.
How it happened: The Blue Bombers came out firing, taking a commanding 17–7 lead heading into the half. But Montreal, fired up by Green Day’s nostalgic halftime performance, rallied to a 21–17 lead in the fourth quarter before scoring the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds remaining. What a rollercoaster.
- Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo showed no signs of Grey Cup jitters, shining in his championship debut with 290 passing yards and three touchdowns en route to claiming the Grey Cup MVP award. King for a day, indeed.
