The best matchups in Week 5 of college football
The GIST: Week 5’s spreading the love with ranked matchups in four Power Five conferences (sorry, Big Ten fans). College football’s at its finest, so grab that Frito pie — it’s tailgate time.
Pac-12 — No. 10 Utah Utes (4-0) vs. No. 19 Oregon State Beavers (3-1), tonight at 9 p.m. ET (Fox): Injuries brought Utah’s once-powerful offense to its knees this season, so the defense put the Utes on its back. But Utah’s superstar quarterback (QB) Cam Rising (and his shiny new ACL) could return tonight and spell big trouble for the Beavs.
Big 12 — No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks (4-0) vs. No. 3 Texas Longhorns (4-0), tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC): Texas is scary good this year, but Kansas’ hot start is breaking century-old records. The Jayhawks are putting their “basketball school” rep further behind them with every gridiron dub. Can they give this football blue blood a run for their money?
SEC — No. 13 LSU Tigers (3-1) vs. No. 20 Ole Miss Rebels (3-1), tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET (ESPN): The Rebels failed to down SEC powerhouse No. 12 Alabama in last week’s 24–10 loss, but hey, everyone deserves a second chance. LSU looks vulnerable after barely escaping Arkansas, making tomorrow primed for a Rebel coup.
ACC — No. 11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-1) vs. No. 17 Duke Blue Devils (4-0), tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC): Is Duke also a football school now? Their massive Week 1 win over Clemson looked like a fluke, but the Blue Devils keep proving they’re the real deal. As long as the ACC–adjacent Irish keep all 11 guys on the field, this should be a fiery College GameDay matchup.
