Florida state quarterback Jordan Travis suffers a gruesome, season-ending injury
The GIST: Week 12 brought few scoreline surprises this Saturday, and the playoff race is as tight as ever following the regular season’s penultimate weekend — but there was one game-changing disaster: AP No. 5 Florida State quarterback (QB) Jordan Travis suffered a gruesome, season-ending injury.
Travis injured: The sixth-year signal-caller, who led the undefeated Seminoles into the coveted fourth spot in the CFP committee’s rankings, left with a serious leg injury in the first quarter. Florida State went on to a commanding 58–13 win over North Alabama but likely lost something much bigger: their CFP dream.

- No. 4 Washington and sixth-year QB Michael Penix Jr. also survived with a gritty 22–20 road win over No. 15 Oregon State that sealed their place in the Pac-12 Championship…and should push them past Florida State into the CFP’s fourth slot.
No. 6 Oregon QB Bo Nix shines: Another sixth-year with CFP aspirations, Nix threw for six touchdowns (TDs) in the first half (!!!) of his Ducks’ 49–13 demolition of Arizona State. Nix and Penix are the Heisman Trophy frontrunners but now Nix has the edge, setting up a sensational Pac-12 ’ship if Oregon clinches a berth next week.
Other shocking scorelines: Perennial troublemaker Appalachian State ruined No. 24 James Madison’s undefeated record with a 26–23 OT win, and both UNC and Utah fell from the AP Top 25 after upset losses to Clemson and now–No. 16 Arizona, respectively.
