The GIST: Four beyond-unlikely contenders — No. 4 UConn, No. 5 San Diego State, No. 5 Miami and No. 9 Florida Atlantic — are headed to next weekend’s men’s Final Four. Houston, we have a problem championship field.

Elite Eight recap: The weekend’s lone snoozer belonged to the UConn Huskies, who rocked No. 3 Gonzaga’s season to sleep with an 82–54 blowout on Saturday, booking a ticket to their sixth Final Four in the process. Fun fact: The Huskies have beaten every tourney opponent this year by at least 15 points. Hey Google, what’s the definition of domination?

  • Elsewhere on Saturday, the Florida Atlantic Owls trashed brackets by becoming the first of three 2023 Final Four first-timers after clawing out a dynamic 79–76 win over No. 3 Kansas State.
  • And finally, the Miami Hurricanes ended No. 2 Texas’ natty hopes with a stunning 88–81 upset win over the highest-seed left on the Elite Eight court. Next weekend’s forecast? A storm’s a brewin’.

What’s next: Speaking of, it’ll sadly be a long five days without men’s hoops — the Final Four tips off from NRG Stadium on Saturday. We’ll have a full preview in your inbox Saturday morning, of course, but until then, women’s hoops have the floor…
