Despite the challenges we’ve all faced this past year, it’s been such an exciting time for women’s sports — . And Clorox has been there the whole way through, from supporting last summer’s safe and successful in Bradenton, Florida to helping players, staff and fans return to home stadiums this season, the official cleaning partner of the W (and the NBA!) continues to support the game. Investment in women’s sports and more hoops for us? Talk about a win-win.
And now, as we anxiously await tip-off of the WNBA’s 25th anniversary season on May 14th and the start of the NBA playoffs on May 22nd, Clorox is helping ease our anxiety when it comes to returning to arenas. When the NBA hosted the All-Star game in Atlanta this past March, one of the league’s first events with fans in attendance, Clorox was there to help make sure everyone was safe. Forget the dunk contest, now that’s a slam-dunk.
Speaking of the NBA, the teams Clorox has partnered with will have one less thing to worry about as they make their playoff runs. The Atlanta Hawks (top contenders in the Eastern Conference), the New York Knicks (first playoff appearance since 2013) and the Washington Wizards (led by Russell Westbrook, who seemingly every game) have all teamed up with Clorox, using their products throughout their home arenas and receiving guidance on their return to stadium protocols. These teams know a winner when they see one.
Now back to the W. We have to talk about some of our favorite Canadian players who’ve also partnered with Clorox: Phoenix Mercury guard Kia Nurse and Minnesota Lynx teammates Natalie Achonwa, Bridget Carleton and Kayla Alexander. Last season, Carleton and Alexander led the Lynx to the WNBA semifinals before falling to the eventual champion Seattle Storm. So close, but still so fresh and .
And Achonwa — who played for the Indiana Fever the last six seasons before signing with the Lynx this offseason — not only led the way on the floor, she was a leader off it. Achonwa was awarded which is given annually to a player who reflects “spirit, leadership, charitable efforts, love for the game and inspirational presence in the community.”
“It is important for me to optimize the benefits and privileges I receive from being a professional athlete," Achonwa said after winning the award this summer. "A big piece of that is using the platform I’m awarded to connect with people, promote a level playing field, and inspire others to make positive change.”
No wonder her and Clorox have teamed up.
Meanwhile, Nurse is adjusting to a new home after from the New York Liberty to the Mercury this offseason. From playing lockdown defense on the court to , Nurse is the iconic gal on the go we all aspire to be. That’s why when we saw Kia Nurse , we started using Clorox On-The-Go Disinfecting Wipes.
Thanks to Clorox’s game-changing partnership with the WNBA and NBA, we’re thinking our “new normal” will soon start to look more like a level (and safe!) playing
field court. Check out the full and the , then treat yourself to some new Clorox cleaning products while you’re at it. The perfect assist.
